I have seen Fortune 10 companies use highly customized Excel VBA workbooks to do some amazing, and important business functions with VBA macros. Organizations have for many years used the stripped down visual basic found in Microsoft Excel to create very powerful tools. In the section below there are the limitations from Microsoft’s FAQ. One huge limitation of the Office 2013 RT experience is VBA macros.

On the other hand, for most basic tasks, such as doing some basic accounting, data presentation and etc, Windows RT is fine. For a power Excel user, the Microsoft Surface RT is not going to cut it speed wise. It was a fairly complex Excel model though. Given, on that particular spreadsheet doing pricing and margin analysis using ERP data the Microsoft Surface RT was not going fast. After about two months of using the device, I think it works at minimum well but it is not great. The other camp firmly believes that Windows RT is difficult to use. Some are polarized to the notion that Windows RT is an abomination.

Other reviewers seem to be highly in one camp or another. This is an update to my previous piece around my initial impressions, now with significant experience behind me.

I wanted to take a few minutes to share my thoughts about using a Microsoft Surface using Windows RT as a PC over a two month period.
